Bicycle Registration and Regulations at Penn State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Transportation Services is sharing guidance on bicycle registration and campus bicycle parking requirements following the tagging of bicycles over spring break.

Bicycle Tagging

Bicycles that received a pink tag were identified for one or more of the following reasons:

  • The bicycle is not registered.
  • The bicycle’s registration has expired.
  • The bicycle was parked in an unauthorized location.

Individuals who received a tag are asked to remove and dispose of it properly.

Registration Requirements

All bicycles operated or stored on campus must be registered and must display a valid registration sticker. Registration is free, and stickers remain valid for two years.

Registration is available online through Bike Index: https://bikeindex.org/psu.

Bicycle Parking Regulations

Bicycles must be secured only to designated bicycle racks. Locking bicycles to light poles, handrails, signposts, or other non-rack structures is prohibited. Additional information is available on the Transportation Services website under Bicycling Resources, Safety, and Rules.

In Person Assistance

Transportation Services staff will be available to answer questions regarding campus cycling from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Thursday, March 19 at the HUB-Robeson Center.
