Spin E-Bike Share Program
Penn State Transportation Services has partnered with the Borough of State College and Spin, a San Francisco-based micromobility unit of Ford Motor Co., to offer the Penn State and State College communities a new bike share program.
Approximately 300 Spin electric-assist bikes (e-bikes) are available across campus and in the neighboring Borough of State College to offer both Penn State and community members convenient access to the bikes. Users can see all e-bike locations in the Spin app as well as service areas, no-ride zones, and the locations of preferred parking spots on campus and in the borough. Riders are encouraged to contact Spin through the app if they have requests for additional deployment locations.
Spin e-bike users must be at least 18 years old to ride and Penn State and Spin encourage individuals to wear a helmet while riding. Users must also obey local traffic laws and Penn State campus rules and regulations for biking on campus.
- $1 to unlock per ride
- $0.25 per minute, per ride
- $6.99 per month memberships available through the Spin app to waive unlock fees (per minute fees still apply)
Penn State students and employees and local community members with limited incomes may apply for the new Spin Access program, which provides discounted fares for those who qualify. Spin Access also provides access to bikes for people without smartphones, mobile location services or credit cards.
Free Late Night and Sunday Rides
As part of Transportation Services' expanded service offerings in response to CATA's recently announced temporary service reductions, beginning Oct. 25, Spin e-bike rentals will be available to all riders with no unlock or rental fees every night from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. and all day on Sundays until further notice, courtesy of Transportation Services. Riders must first sign up for a Spin account through the Spin app.
